In His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai, has officially launched route 2020. This route is 15 KM and is an extension to the Dubai Metro red line. About the New Dubai Metro Line Route
Route 2020
Route 2020 is 15KM and is the latest extension of the Dubai Metro. When this new route opens, the total length of the Dubai metro will become 90KM. This new extension will pass through 7 stations and will be able to transport over 500 thousand passengers each day. The Dubai Metro tickets for this new route are available at all the metro stations.
Construction of this new route has started since 2016 and was planned to be opened in 2020 with Expo 2020. The Expo 2020 was supposed to start in October of 2020 but was postponed to October of 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The construction of this new Dubai metro line cost 11 billion dirhams. Moreover, Over 12 thousand engineers and technicians have worked over 80 million hours to complete the new line on time. This new route is part of Dubai’s aspirations toward the next 50 years.
Over 46 thousand people will be able to ride the new route in both directions each hour. Of course, this will greatly help people transport around the city in a fast, affordable, and secure way. The stations that this new route will pass through are Jebel Ali, The Gardens, Discovery Gardens, Al Furjan, Jumeirah Gold Estates, Dubai Investment Park, and Expo 2020.

HESOP
All the metro trains in this new route will use HESOP (Harmonic Energy Saver Optimizer). This system saves energy during braking and uses that energy to power several loads in the Dubai metro facilities like the ventilation and lighting system. This system aims to save over 6.6 million kilowatts of energy per year. This will also reduce operation costs by 3 million dirhams each year.
Current testing of the route 2020
Currently, ongoing testing is being performed on the new route. These tests will include testing of all aspects of the new route and the new metro trains. Furthermore, this includes testing of communication systems, automated operational systems, electrical systems, air-conditioning, onboard electronic devices, lighting systems, braking systems, and the motor. The route will be open to the public in September 2020.
